Ineos: FM for LLDPE from Grangemouth declared

January 14/2010
January, 15  (plasteurope.com) -- Ineos Olefins & Polymers Europe (Lyndhurst / UK; www.ineos.com) on 8 January declared force majeure for LLDPE C6 grades produced at its Grangemouth complex in Scotland. It confirmed reports that the swing plant, which also produces  HDPE, was taken off stream during the Christmas holiday season, due to a technical issue linked to the main reactor.

The plant is expected to be down for about two weeks, and Ineos said it will help customers to source and secure alternative supplies. The company did not explain the technical issue; however, sources said cold weather may have played a role.
