Despite the stagnating market, the reduction of the import duties on
equipment may have a positive influence on putting new production
capacities into operation –
MRC analysts
believe. Presumably, there may increase supplies of blow molding
equipment (containers, barrels, packaging for cosmetics, etc.). In view
of the reduced import duty on polystyrene and
PVC, operations of converters in the sectors of
PVC profiles, molded goods, disposable tableware, sheets, etc. are expectedly to become more active.
Over the course of the first six months of 2009 investments into
polymers processing moved at only USD 198 million thus having drawn
back to the level of January-June 2004, according to MRC data. The
sharp landslide of investments was certainly caused by the economic
recession. Today, new equipment is being supplied only for the least
risk projects in stable processing sectors. The maximum investment
activity in the Russian market was recorded in 2008 when on average 12
complete polymers processing lines were being delivered to the market
daily.
