Prices for Asian PVC to rise in Russia

January 20/2010
MOSCOW (MRC) Continuously rising naphtha and ethylene prices in Asia have affected PVC prices. Resin prices have gone up more than USD50/mt since the beginning of the year MRC analysts reporting.

During the month, ethylene prices have increased up more than USD100/mt in Asia; therewith, local PVC producers have to cover growing feedstock costs by pushing up prices for their products.

Sea freight charges increased as well. Prices for PVC produced by NE Asian companies offered to Russian converters climbed at USD9901.040/mt, CFR St. Petersburg, for shipments in January. Last week, some companies announced February prices.

Early in January, Chinese producers of acetylene-based PVC raised their prices by more than USD60/mt. The growth of resin prices in Asia is partially levelling the reduction of the import duty from 15% (but not less than EUR150/mt) down to 10%. Some companies have already been reporting about customs clearance at the level of 10%.
