Ukrainian polymers market down 10%

MOSCOW (MRC) - The Ukrainian polymers market went down by 10.5% in 2009 according to the MRC Annual Reports.

The PVC market was affected the most; estimated consumption dropped by 19% in that market. Polyethylene demand decreased 7.6%. The HDPE production is still idle in Kalush; therefore, the market is completely dependable on imports.


As well as in the Russian Federation, the Ukrainian polypropylene market demonstrated better results. Estimated PP consumption dropped only by 6%, down to 104 kt. At the same time, polypropylene output in Lisichansk even increased 16%.

One of the results of the year was more than thrice decrease in investments into polymers processing. According to MRC data, overall converters investments amounted only to USD 50 million in 2009, whereas in 2008 that figure exceeded USD 150 million.
