Consumption of polyethylene in the Russian Federation has been growing on average by 14% annually, for the recent six years. This is one of the highest showings in the world. According to the data of mrcplast.ru, overall polyethylene consumption in Russia exceeded 1.250 mln. mt in 2006 (15%-growth as compared with 2005).

Overall high market dynamics correlate with two macroeconomic factors: annual 12%-growth of retail turnover and energetic activity in the construction sector (mainly, due to repair works and not due to new construction).

The highest growth rates are demonstrated by the Russian sectors of pipes and EBM; average annual growth rates of polyethylene consumption in these sectors exceed 17%. Unfortunately, Russian polyethylene producers were not able to keep up with the increasing demand on the part of domestic converters. Today, they cannot fully meet market demand either in terms of supply, or in terms of product mix. The most critical situation is with the supply of pipe and injection molding HDPE. The Russian LDPE market is unlikely to change its existing state of affairs right up to 2012, since no production projects either in the CIS or in the neighboring countries, apart, may be, from Iran, have been declared. There are certain expectancies regarding an HDPE/LLDPE project in Kazan, since Russia has to import 224 kt of HDPE and almost 60 kt of LLDPE already now…

The Report includes analysis of consumption, production, exports-imports of polyethylene in Russia in the context of PE types, markets, producers and their brands, as well as detailed statistics on operations of the top 17 market players. All data refer to 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. Furthermore, there is forecast right up to 2010.

The Report contains the generally accepted classification of PE: LDPE, LLDPE, HDPE, EVA, and other ethylene copolymers. There is a detailed analysis of consumption trends in the following markets: films, injection molding, pipes, cable, EBM, extrusion coating, etc. There are mini-reviews of each consumption market describing development history and current trends in the market. As well, there are data on investments into PE processing equipment in markets studied.

There is a detailed analysis of data on domestic output, polyethylene imports and exports (by PE types, markets, producers and PE brands).

For the first time in the CIS, we presented ratings of sales volumes of top 30 polyethylene producers and top 40 PE brands. The Report contains profiles of top 17 suppliers of PE to Russia, as well as the rating of 50 biggest polyethylene converters.

The Report answers the following questions:

What was the PE consumption in Russia in 2006?
Why did PE imports in the Russian Federation exceed the level of 340 KT in 2006, whereas in 2005 they made up about 181 KT?
What was the level of investments into PE processing equipment over 2000-2006?
Why did HDPE prices increase by more than 20% in July 2006?
Why does the LDPE market in Russia grow slower than HDPE or LLDPE markets?
Which PE processing sectors grow faster than the market on the whole?
Why do film manufacturers more often use HDPE and LLDPE?
What is going to happen to the LDPE market in the nearest five years?
Which companies are leading in terms of investments into PE processing and in which sectors? Which equipment do they use?
What are the volumes of output, import and export of finished goods made of PE?
Which PE brands do manufacturers of films, molded goods, pipes, cable, etc. prefer?
Which PE suppliers increased their market shares, and which, on the contrary, lost their positions?
What are the prospects of investment projects on PE production in Russia?
What is the forecast on market development up to 2010?
Which PE types, brands and in which volumes will be in demand in the nearest five years?
