Several injured, some missing after explosion at BASF German chemical plant

MOSCOW (MRC) -- German chemicals giant BASF said on Monday that several people had been injured and some were missing after an explosion at its facility in Ludwigshafen, where the company is headquartered, said Reuters.

The factory's steam crackers has been shut down for safety reasons following the incident, a BASF spokeswoman said.

The cause of the explosion at around 1130 local time (5.30 a.m. ET) at its Landeshafen Nord facility was being investigated, the company said.

Relevant authorities have been notified, the company said.

BASF is the worlds leading chemical company. Its portfolio ranges from chemicals, plastics, performance products and crop protection products to oil and gas.
