Ufaorgsyntez suspended PP production

MOSCOW (MRC) -- Yesterday Ufaorgsyntez was forced to suspend polypropylene (PP) production. Suspension will take not more than three days, ICIS-MRC Price reports informs.

On 1 October, Ufaorgsyntez suspended polypropylene production. It is caused by interruption in supplies of the feedstock - propane-propylene fraction. As the sources in the company inform, suspension will take about three days.

The annual PP capacity at Ufaorgsyntez makes 100,000 tonnes. In January-August the plant produced about 80,000 tonnes of PP.

As we informed before, because of the lack of the fraction, Poliom was forced to shift the terms of the restart of PP production. On 1 September, Omsk producer suspended its capacities for a two week maintenance. Though on the back of limited feedstock, the restart is expected only this week and with incomplete capacities utilization.

MOSCOW (MRC) -- In August production of PET chips in Russia fell by 32% compared to July and made 29,700 tonnes, MRC ScanPlast informs.

Yet in July the Russian plants demonstrated record PET output. In general, in July Russia produced 42,000 tonnes of the chips. The situation changed in August. The fall of PET production was caused by the suspension of two Russian plants. These unscheduled suspensions on the back of a high demand resulted in PET deficit in the spot market.

On 6 August Senezh (Solnechnogorsk) declared a force-majeure. Because of the breakage, Senezh didn't produce chips over 20 days. Over the reported month Bashkir Polief also significantly decreased capacities utilization.

If in July overall PET capacities utilization in Russia reached 100%, in August overall capacities utilization of the industry fell to 68.5%.

In January-August Russia produced 304,000 tonnes of bottle brands of PET that equals the figures over the same period in 2012.

MOSCOW (MRC) -- In August Kazakh converters significantly reduced imports of polyvinylchloride (PVC). Total index of external supplies decreased by 36% compared to July, as MRC analysts inform.

A weak demand for the finished goods out of PVC and excessive imports over the previous months made Kazakh companies considerably reduce purchases in August. Imports of PVC reduced to 2,200 tonnes compared to 3,400 tonnes in July.

Despite a weak demand for the finished goods out of PVC, local companies significantly increased PVC imports over the two months of the summer. In June-July import supplies made 4,000 tonnes and 3,400 tonnes correspondingly compared to 2,700 tonnes and 2,900 tonnes last year. As a result, large inventories of the finished goods and feedstock made local companies in August decrease imports.

Over January-August total imports of PVC to Kazakhstan made about 18,500 tonnes compared to 16,200 tonnes over the same period in 2012.

MOSCOW (MRC) -- Ukraine plans to impose antidumping duties on imports of suspension polyvinylchloride (PVC-S) in an amount of 6.5%. The decision on this sanction may be accepted on 5 October, MRC analysts inform.

The intention to impose antidumping duties on import PVC-S from USA was announced in the project of protocol instructions to the protocol of the meting of Ukraine's prime-minister dated by 10 September 2013. The amount of the duty will make 6.5%. The final date of taking a decision is 5 October 2013.

The procedure of the antidumping investigation is at the final stage. The fact of the dumping was confirmed by the interdepartmental commission and published in Golos Ukraini.

As we informed before, imposing of antidumping duties on imports of suspension polyvinylchloride from USA is necessary for support of the largest petrochemical complex of Ukraine Karpatneftekhim (Kalush, Ivano-Frankovsk). The annual PVC capacity of the enterprise is 300,000 tonnes.

As MRC inform, in 2012 total imports of PVC-S from USA to Ukraine made about 34,500 tonnes. Over the eight months of 2013, this figure grew up to 44,100 tonnes.
