MOSCOW (MRC) -- Calculated consumption of acryl-butadiene-styrene (ABS) in Russia increased to 7,200 tonnes in January-May 2015, up 18% compared to the same period in the previous year, according to MRC ScanPlast.
The share of imported material in the consumption exceeded 50%. Russia's imports of ABS were 3,770 tonnes in January-February 2015.
However, the increase in the domestic ABS production in the country contributes to the displacement of imports.
Deliveries of imported ABS in the country decreased 20% in the first two months of the year. Among imported brands traditionally the biggest demand occurred for injection moulding ABS. The share of injection moulding ABS in the total ABS imports into Russia over the reported period reached 95%. The Russian ABS market remains dependent on imports.
Exports of Russian ABS continued to be low. Exports of ABS from Russia were only 180 tonnes in January-February 2015, up 7% year on year.
Only two plants produce ABS in Russia - Plastik (Uzlovaya) and Nizhnekamskneftekhim.
