MOSCOW (MRC) -- Evonik has launched a new range of functional polymers for use in nutritional supplements, said the company.
The Eudraguard range of products for the nutraceutical industry form part of the company's health care business line. The company has developed functional coatings for use in nutritional supplements, based on its expertise on EUDRAGIT polymers for oral drug products.
"To be effective, some of these products require sophisticated formulation and delivery technologies such as customised coatings with proven functionality."
Evonik health care business line head Dr Jean-Luc Herbeaux said: "People around the world are becoming more health conscious and are increasingly inclined to supplement their diet with nutraceuticals or dietary supplements sold as tablets, capsules, softgels, gelcaps or powders. "To be effective, some of these products require sophisticated formulation and delivery technologies such as customised coatings with proven functionality."
The Eudraguard protect is designed to mask flavours and odors in products such as garlic extract or fish oil, and protect ingredients from moisture, light, and oxygen.
Eudraguard control allows manufacturers to create reliable and replicatable release profiles, and it prevents ingredients from becoming less effective upon contact with stomach acid.
Evonik pharma and food ingredients product line head Dr Thomas Hermann said: "We have successfully obtained approval in Europe and the United States for our Eudraguard products, and the launch of this new product series is now underway.
"Evonik's goal is to be as attractive a partner to the nutritional supplements industry as it is to the pharmaceutical industry."
