MOSCOW (MRC) -- US petrochemical producer OxyChem has suffered a production upset at its vinyls facility in La Porte, Texas,at the end of last week, as per Plastemart.
As a result, the company has been forced to substantially reduce run rates, leading to rescheduling of domestic deliveries and a cutback in export volumes.
OxyChem's La Porte complex has 1,250,000 tpa of vinyl chloride monomer production capacity. VCM is an intermediate material that is later transformed into PVC.
As MRC informed earlier, officials for the Occidental Chemical Corp. and a Mexican petrochemical company will jointly build a USD1 billion ethylene cracking plant in Ingleside. Construction of what is being called Ingleside Ethylene has been underway at OxyChem's plant in Ingleside for several months. But officials for OxyChem and Mexichem hosted a ceremony Wednesday to publicly kick off the project.

MRC
