MOSCOW (MRC) -- Amec Foster Wheeler was awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract by PetroVietnam for their Dung Quat oil refinery expansion in Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam, as per Hydrocarbonprocessing.
The contract is part of the USD1.8-billion expansion and upgrading plan, which is planned to increase the plant’s annual processing capacity by 30%, according to project officials. The value of the contract was not disclosed.
The two-year contract includes the optimization of the refinery configuration, coordination of licensors, and the design for new units as well as the revamp of existing units. This includes establishing the optimum project definition to allow the project to be implemented at the lowest cost, while increasing the stable supply of petroleum products in accordance with the Euro 5 standard.
Amec Foster Wheeler will also support contracting activities ready for the next phase of the project, the company said.
"This contract award affirms our world leading refinery capability, and I am delighted we are using our global expertise to support PetroVietnam in the development of Dung Quat, building on the design we completed for the original refinery 15 years ago," said Roberto Penno, Amec Foster Wheeler’s group president for Asia, Middle East, Africa and Southern Europe.
As MRC informed earlier, Rosneft, Petrovietnam eyed refining collaborations in September 2014. Rosneft and PetroVietnam also discussed supplying Russian oil to PetroVietnam’s Dung Quat refinery and potential cooperation on modernizing the plant.
