MOSCOW (MRC) -- LG Chem has completed an expansion of its acrylic acid and super absorbent polymers (SAP) production lines in Yeosu, South Korea, as per GV with reference to local media sources.
The project, in which LG earlier said it would invest USD304-million, increased acrylic acid capacity to 510,000 t/y from 430,000 t/y and SAP capacity to 360,000 t/y from 200,000 t/y.
LG, the only Korean producer of acrylic acid, now has the world’s fifth largest capacity for the product, and the fourth largest capacity for SAP, the Korea Herald noted.
As MRC reported earlier, LG Chemical shut down its polypropylene (PP) plant in South Korea for maintenance turnaround in late March 2015. It remained off-stream for around one month. Located at Daesan in South Korea, the plant has a production capacity of 600,000 mt/year.
