MOSCOW (MRC) -- Overall imports of polyethylene (PE) into the Republic of Belarus rose in the first five months of 2016 by 13.2% year on year, totalling 45,400 tonnes, according to MRC's DataScope report.
According to the National Statistics Bureau of the Republic of Belarus, May 2016 PE imports to Belarus decreased to 9,600 tonnes from 11,400 tonnes a month earlier, shipments of Middle Eastern linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) were reduced. Overall PE imports grew to 45,400 tonnes in January-May 2016 from 40,100 tonnes a year earlier.
The structure of PE imports to Belarus by grades looked the following way over the stated period.
May total imports of low density polyethylene (LDPE) and LLDPE dropped to 5,900 tonnes from 7,800 tonnes a month earlier. Local companies reduced by nearly half their purchasing of LLDPE from Middle Eastern producers. Overall imports of these PE grades into Belarus exceeded 29,200 tonnes in the first five months of the year, compared to 25,900 tonnes a year earlier.
May imports of high density polyethylene (HDPE) increased to 3,700 tonnes versus 3,600 tonnes a month earlier. Thus, HDPE imports totalled about 16,200 tonnes in January-May 2016, up by 13.9% year on year.
