MOSCOW (MRC) -- Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR signed licensing agreements with Technip, Univation Technologies, Axens and Sinopec Tech as part of a project to establish the Gas Processing and Petrochemical Complex (GPC) in Azerbaijan, SOCAR said in a message posted on its website Dec. 20, reported Trend.
According to the agreements, SOCAR will acquire licenses for using the appropriate technologies from Technip, Univation Technologies, Axens and Sinopec Tech under the GPC project, the message said.
In their turn, the companies-licensors will provide SOCAR with certain engineering and design solutions for the project.
SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev and officials of the companies participating in the project delivered speeches at the signing ceremony, the message said.
As MRC informed before, in April 2015, Maire Tecnimont S.p.A. announced that its subsidiaries Tecnimont S.p.A. and KT - Kinetics Technology S.p.A, following the completion of Open Book Cost Estimate services activities, had reached an agreement with SOCAR POLYMER for the award relating to the realization of a polypropylene (PP) plant and relevant utilities and off sites facilities on a EPC Lump Sum basis. The plant will have a capacity of about 180,000 t/y (tons per year). This will be the first PP plant in Azerbaijan and will utilize the propylene feedstock coming from the existing naphtha cracker.
Besides, at that time, NEOS Technologies also announce that it had licensed its Innovene S Process for the manufacture of medium density and high density polyethylene (HDPE) to SOCAR Polymer for their HDPE project in the Chemical Industrial Park located in Sumgait, Azerbaijan. The Innovene S HDPE plant will produce a wide range of polyethylene grades to serve the growing demand for high performance products.. These grades include commodity grades made from Ziegler and Chrome catalysts as well as speciality grades such as bimodal PE 100 pipe products.
SOCAR, which is keen on expanding operations in the retail oil products market abroad, is involved in exploring oil and gas fields, producing, processing, and transporting oil, gas, and gas condensate, marketing petroleum and petrochemical products in the domestic and international markets, and supplying natural gas to industry and the public in Azerbaijan.
SOCAR Polymer is a subsidiary of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR). The entity was formed at the end of 2013 to run investments at the Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park, a production park which intends to become a chemical hub in central Asia.
