PE production in Russia up by 58% in Jan-Jul 2020

September 02/2020

MOSCOW (MRC) -- Russia"s overall production of polyethylene (PE) totalled 1,712,400 tonnes in the first seven months of 2020, up by 58% year on year. Linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) accounted for the greatest increase in the output, according to MRC"s ScanPlast report.

July total PE production in Russia was 249,800 tonnes, whereas this figure was 210,500 tonnes a month earlier, ZapSibNeftekhim raised its output of PE after the shutdown for maintenance in mid-June. Thus, overall PE production reached 1,712,400 tonnes in January-July 2020, compared to 1,085,900 tonnes a year earlier. Production of all PE grades rose, but LLDPE accounted for the greatest increase, which was provided by ZapSibNeftekhim.

The PE production structure by grades looked the following way over the stated period.

July total high density polyethylene (HDPE) production exceeded 147,500 tonnes versus 114,400 tonnes a month earlier, ZapSibNeftekhim significantly increased its capacity utilisation, whereas other producers reduced their output. Russian plants" overall HDPE output reached 1,040,400 tonnes in January-July 2020, up by 84% year on year.

July total low density polyethylene (LDPE) production decreased to 50,800 tonnes from 58,600 tonnes in June, Angarsk Polymers Plant and Gazpron neftekhim Salavat shut down their production capacities for a scheduled maintenance. Thus, overall production of this PE grade totalled 389,600 tonnes over the stated period, up by 2% year on year.

July LLDPE production rose to 51,400 tonnes from 37,400 tonnes a month earlier, ZapSibNeftekhim and Kazanorgsintez increased their PE output. Overall LLDPE production grew to 282,400 tonnes in the first seven months of 2020 from 141,000 tonnes a year earlier.
