(plastemart) -- Formosa Petrochemical Corp has cancelled its open-spec naphtha purchase tender following a fire at a monethylene glycol (MEG) plant operated by its sister company Nan Ya Plastics.
As MRC informed earlier, the fire broke out at Nan Ya's MEG unit No.4 on Wednesday morning and lasted for more than an hour. The damage caused by the fire has not been assessed yet.
Feedstock ethylene for the MEG plant is supplied by Formosa Petrochemicals.
Formosa Plastics Group is a Taiwanese conglomerate of diverse interests, including biotechnology, petrochemical processing and production of electronics components. The Formosa Plastics Group was formed in 1958 to reflect vertical integration of the PVC manufacturing process by the Formosa Plastics Corporation (FPC). Nan Ya Plastics Processing Corp. was formed to purchase PVC resins produced by FPC. Formosa Plastics offers a full line of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) resins, caustic soda and other petrochemicals.
