MOSCOW (MRC) - Total imports of polyethylene (PE) into Ukraine increased to 62,600 tonnes in the first three months of 2016, up 38% compared to the same period of 2015. The greatest increase in demand occurred for high density polyethylene (HDPE), according to MRC DataScope.
March imports of polyethylene into Ukraine were 23,800 tonnes compared to 21,500 tonnes; imports of all types of PE increased. Total PE imports into the country grew to 62,600 tonnes in January - March 2016, compared with 45,500 tonnes year on year. The greatest increase in supply occurred for HDPE, the demand for ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) on the contrary decreased.
Structure of PE imports over the reported period was as follows.
March imports of HDPE into the country were about 11,000 tonnes, compared with 9,600 tonnes in February. A small increase in imports occurred for film PE. HDPE imports in the country exceeded 30,000 tonnes in January - March of this year, compared with 19,100 tonnes in the same time a year earlier. HDPE shipments grew in all sectors of consumption, the only exception was only sector of extrusion blow molding (EBM) of PE packaging.
March imports of low density polyethylene (LDPE) into Ukraine exceeded 7,000 tonnes against 6,500 tonnes a month earlier. The main increase in March LDPE imports into the country occurred for film PE from Belarus. LDPE imports into Ukraine were 17,800 tonnes in the first three months of the year, up 27% year on year.
March imports of linear polyethylene (LLDPE) into the country slightly exceeded 4,900 tonnes, compared with 4,800 tonnes in February.
In general, January - March LLDPE imports into Ukraine increased to 12,800 tonnes compared with 10,300 tonnes year on year.
Imports of other types of polyethylene, including EVA slightly exceeded 2,000 tonnes in January-March, compared with 2,100 tonnes.
