MOSCOW (MRC) -- Formosa Plastics (part of Formosa Petrochemical) plans to shut a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plant for a maintenance turnaround, reported Apic-online.
A Polymerupdate source in Taiwan informed that the company is likely to be taken off-stream in August 2016. The plant is expected to remain shut for around 3 weeks.
Located in Mailiao, Taiwan, the PVC plant has a production capacity of 500,000 mt/year.
As MRC informed earlier, Formosa Petrochemical Corp's 1.2 mln tpa No. 3 naphtha crackers operated at reduced rates of 90-95% until late June 2016 due to ongoing technical issues. Formosa, Asia's top naphtha importer, operates two other naphtha crackers in Mailiao, which have a total capacity of 1.73 million tpy of ethylene.
Formosa Petrochemical is involved primarily in the business of refining crude oil, selling refined petroleum products and producing and selling olefins (including ethylene, propylene, butadiene and BTX) from its naphtha cracking operations. Formosa Petrochemical is also the largest olefins producer in Taiwan and its olefins products are mostly sold to companies within the Formosa Group. Among the company's chemical products are paraxylene (PX), phenyl ethylene, acetone and pure terephthalic acid (PTA). The company's plastic products include acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) resins, polystyrene (PS), polypropylene (PP) and panlite (PC).
