MOSCOW (MRC) -- Linde Malaysia, a subsidiary of The Linde Group, has established a JV company with Petronas Gas Berhad (PGB) to build an industrial air gas facility that will produce gaseous oxygen and nitrogen to supply the needs of Petronas’ refinery and petrochemicals integrated complex (RAPID), within the Pengerang integrated petroleum complex (PIPC) in southern Malaysia, as per Hydrocarbonprocessing.
Linde and Petronas’ JV company, Pengerang Gas Solution (PGS), has also secured long-term agreements for the supply of oxygen and nitrogen to the refinery and petrochemical complex which includes an ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol plant. PGS will build two large air separation units and associated gas facilities resulting in a total investment of USD167 MM.
Linde’s first JV with PGB, Industrial Gases Solutions (IGS), is an air gases trading company. Linde today, through IGS, also supplies gases to Petronas’ subsidiaries in Malaysia, including to its Kerteh and Gebeng petrochemical complexes.
Linde’s engineering division, which will design and construct PGS’ air separation units, also concluded the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning contract with PGS. Linde’s air separation technology offers high energy efficiency and operational reliability.
As MRC informed before, Petronas is seeking to raise USD7.2 bln (RM29.5 bln) for its Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (Rapid) project in one of the largest project financings from Asia in recent years.
Petronas plans to build a C6-based metallocene linear LDPE plant and a low density polyethylene (LDPE)/ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) swing plant at its greenfield integrated refinery and petrochemical complex in southern Johor state by mid-2019. The proposed metallocene LLDPE will have a capacity of 350,000 tpa, while the LDPE/EVA will have a capacity of about 150,000 tpa. The two plants are part of Petronas' planned Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development project in Pengerang at Johor. RAPID includes a 300,000 bpd refinery and a petrochemical complex with a 3 million tpa steam cracker, and is expected to come onstream in mid-2019. The petrochemical complex will have the capacity to produce 7.7 million tpa of petrochemical products.
Linde is a global major focused on industrial technologies for gas treatment and gas separation with ethane, propane and heavier fractions stripping. In addition, the company designs and builds cryogenic plants for gas and helium liquefaction. In the 2014 financial year, Linde Group generated revenue of EUR 17.047 bn, making it the largest gases and engineering company in the world with approximately 65,500 employees working in more than 100 countries worldwide.
